Ireland Vetoed for Navy, Irish Game
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The possibility of a Notre Dame-Navy football game played in Ireland next year ended today as Navy told Notre Dame officials the game will be played in this country.
Notre Dame sports information director John Heisler said Navy officials contacted administrators in South Bend to say they will announce the game will take place at Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in New Jersey.
Navy is the host of the Nov. 3, 1990, game.
Officials from both athletic departments had scouted a possible game site in Dublin. The Indianapolis News reported Wednesday that Wembley Stadium in London and Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium had also been considered.
