Beverly Hills : Nonsmoking Areas OKd
Hotel managers in the city have agreed to voluntarily designate nonsmoking sections in the restaurants of their establishments, after meetings with City Council representatives, Vice Mayor Allan L. Alexander said.
Hotels are exempt from a Beverly Hills ordinance requiring restaurants to set aside 60% of their dining area for nonsmokers.
The consensus of the council at an informal session Tuesday was that restaurants in new hotels built in the city should be subject to the same requirements as other new restaurants. These include filtration and exhaust systems to extract smoke from dining areas.
