POP LP CHART : ‘Wheels’ Gives Stones Satisfaction
Those wheels the Stones are rolling on aren’t made of steel--they’re made of money. The Stones’ “Steel Wheels” album, which rolled up to No. 4 on the Billboard pop chart in just three weeks, just might be the band’s biggest ever. The album’s hit single, “Mixed Emotions”--No. 12 on the pop singles chart--is helping to lure album buyers. For the second straight week, Milli Vanilli has both the top pop album, “Girl You Know It’s True,” and the No. 1 pop single, “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You.” Motley Crue’s “Dr. Feelgood” vaulted from No. 24 to No. 8 in its second chart week. Thanks to Living Colour’s new hit single, “Glamour Boys” (No. 43), and the band’s opening spot on the Stones tour, its “Vivid” album (No. 35), which seemed past its peak, is zooming up the chart again. New Kids on the Block is so hot that an old album, “New Kids on the Block,” is rocketing up the chart--this week leaping from No. 75 to No. 58. Alice Cooper’s surprising “Trash” (No. 24) has a outside chance to reach the Top 10.
* Aerosmith’s “Pump,” hot on the heels of Motley Crue’s “Dr. Feelgood” in the heavy-metal sweepstakes, entered the chart grandly--at No. 23. Look for “Pump” to jump into the Top 10 next week.
