Weekend TV : Reruns Finally Yield to Network Season Premieres; NBC Slates Two Glitzy Specials
No more reruns.
A slew of network series, including “Tour of Duty,” “The Golden Girls,” “227,” “Amen,” “My Two Dads” and “Murder, She Wrote,” make their season premieres this weekend.
“Saturday Night With Connie Chung,” a revamped version of “West 57th,” also bows tonight at 10 p.m. on CBS (2)(8) with a profile of civil rights leader Vernon Johns. James Earl Jones portrays Johns in re-created scenes from his years in Montgomery, Ala.
On Sunday, Fox’s “Booker,” a spinoff of “21 Jump Street” starring Richard Grieco, debuts at 7 p.m. (11)(6).
NBC (4)(36)(39), meanwhile, counters its rivals’ fresh programming with two glitzy specials. Tonight at 9:30, Betty White, Danny Thomas and George Burns help out in “Bob Hope’s Love Affair With Lucy,” a tribute to the late Lucille Ball. On Sunday at 9 p.m., “Saturday Night Live 15th Anniversary” features former cast members including Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd celebrating the daring wackiness of this long-running late-night staple.
