Russ Spencer’s goal 15 minutes into the second half broke a scoreless tie as The Master’s College upset visiting UC San Diego, 1-0, in a nonconference soccer match Friday.

The match pitted the third-ranked team (San Diego) in the NCAA against the 16th-ranked Master’s of the NAIA. And The Master’s defense rose to the occasion, allowing UC San Diego (3-1-1) just three shots on goal.

One of those shots was a penalty kick that junior goalie Allan Bowden stopped. He also had a diving save during the match.
