Chatsworth 9, Monroe 0--Rayna Stewart intercepted a Jesse Wallace pass in the first quarter and returned it 38 yards for the game’s only touchdown at Chatsworth. Joe Mier added a safety, blocking Garrit Maxwell’s punt out of the end zone.
Chatsworth (1-0) limited Monroe (0-1) to 18 yards in total offense and three first downs. Wallace completed just four of 14 passes for 46 yards, and the Vikings finished with minus-28 yards rushing.
Although Chatsworth quarterback Brandon Ruedy failed to complete any of his three passing attempts, running back Kenya Smith rushed for 127 yards in 31 carries as the Chancellors rolled up 154 yards in total offense.
Monroe’s anemic offense limited kicker Rachel Gagliano to just one play in her varsity debut, the kickoff opening the second half.
