Rio Mesa 34, Santa Clara 20--Quarterback Henry Wilson ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to lead host Rio Mesa. Wilson completed just two of 13 passes for 40 yards but passed 23 yards to Brian Hafer in the third quarter to give Rio Mesa (2-1) a 28-14 lead.

Rio Mesa tailback Sal Balsano rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns in 18 carries. Balsano ran 30 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to give Rio Mesa a 14-6 lead.

Santa Clara quarterback Tim Gutierrez increased his career Ventura County passing record, competing 22 of 33 passes for 284 yards.
