Tibbets Sparks Sonora to Victory Over Bellflower
Scott Tibbets rushed for two touchdowns, leading Sonora High School to a 27-0 victory over Bellflower Friday in a nonleague football game before 500 at La Habra High School.
Tibbets scored both touchdowns in the second half. His first came late in the third quarter to put the Raiders (2-1) ahead, 16-0. He added the second on a one-yard run with 8:03 left to put Sonora ahead, 24-0.
Lewis added a 43-yard field goal.
Tibbets had 75 yards in 15 carries and Sanders had seven catches for 121 yards.
Sonora took a 6-0 lead on a 37-yard pass from quarterback from Ryan Lewis to tight end Scott Sanders with 7:49 left in the first quarter.
Lewis then added a 26-yard field goal late in the first quarter to put Sonora ahead, 9-0.
Sonora’s defense held Bellflower to 99 yards. Quarterback Mike Simmons completed two of 18 passes for 28 yards for Bellflower (0-3). After completing his first pass, Simmons missed on 13 consecutive attempts.
