Solana Beach Man Hurt in Fire
A Solana Beach man was in critical condition late Saturday at the UC San Diego Medical Center burn unit after a fire early Saturday at his house on Solana Circle West, a hospital spokesman said.
Walter Popoff, 56, was rescued from his living room and rushed to UCSD with extensive burns following the fire, which caused an estimated $75,000 damage, a Solana Beach fire department spokesman said. His wife escaped from the burning house without injury, he said.
Preliminary cause is a discarded cigarette in a chair, the spokesman said.
