High School Roundup : GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Royal d. Agoura, 15-1, 15-12--Royal finished undefeated in its own tournament by soundly beating Agoura in the final at Royal.
Beth Kohs had seven kills and teammate Wende Brown added six for Royal in the final.
In the semifinal round Saturday morning, Royal defeated Simi Valley, 15-2, 15-11.
Kohl, Alison Bantel and Michelle Pagan of Royal made the all-tournament team. Agoura’s Noel Hagenberger and Christy Jannsen also were selected to the team.
In the consolation final, Buena defeated Simi Valley, 15-5.
Cleveland d. Huntington Park, 15-13--Cleveland, after roaring through pool play without a loss, defeated Huntington Park to win the 12-team Venice Invitational at Venice High.
Middle hitters Monica Martin and Michele Diana each had five kills in the final for the Cavaliers.
Cleveland defeated Marshall in the semifinal round, 15-13.
WATER POLO
Buena Park 8, Royal 7--Terry Heller’s shot with six seconds to play forged a 7-7 tie for Royal but Buena Park answered with a half-court goal at the buzzer in a Villa Park tournament match.
Royal (2-5), which lost to San Clemente, 11-7, earlier Saturday afternoon, finished 1-3 in the tournament. Senior Devon Hurst scored 21 of the Highlanders’ 26 tournament goals.
