Residents in San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point will hear warning sirens Wednesday morning as the devices are given an annual testing.

Dave Barron, spokesman for Southern California Edison Co., said the sirens will be sounded twice, for two to five minutes each time, between 10 a.m. and noon.

He said sirens at San Onofre State Park and Camp Pendleton in San Diego County will be tested at the same time.

The alert sirens are required by federal regulations in case of a nuclear emergency, Barron said, and can also be used as warnings for other community emergencies.

The sirens are intended to alert residents to turn on their radios or TVs for emergency instructions, Barron said.
