San Diego will be the site for the Seattle SuperSonics’ training camp Oct. 6-11 because they can’t use Northwest College in Kirkland, the NBA club announced.
Sonics President Bob Whitsitt told a news conference that the Sonics did not have “the luxury of shopping around to find another site” in the Seattle area.
The Sonics said they found out this week that Kirkland is not zoned for professional basketball, club spokesman Jim Rupp said. The Sonics had their training camp at Northwest College last year.
The Sonics will train at University of San Diego except on Oct. 7 when they will work out at University of San Diego High School. The Sonics will open their exhibition schedule in San Diego Oct. 12 against the Clippers.
