Bonita Vista 30, Montgomery 12--Rodney Davenport caught four passes for 68 yards and a touchdown and Travis Sorge scored two touchdowns to lead visiting Bonita Vista (2-1-1). Montgomery’s George Swanson had a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown. Montgomery is 1-3.

Southwest 9, Castle Park 0--Dion Walker caught five passes from Andy Quinn for 105 yards and the game’s only touchdown, a 73-yarder in the first quarter. Quinn completed nine of 16 passes for 155 yards. Defensive back Lawrence Estes had two of Southwest’s four interceptions.

Both teams are 2-2 overall, Southwest now 1-0 in conference and Castle Park 0-1.

Mt. Carmel 10, San Dieguito 0--The Sundevils held visiting San Dieguito to 79 yards rushing and upset the sixth-ranked Mustangs. Pat Abare kicked a 27 yard field goal in the second uarter and Tony Eannucci scored in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run. Mt. Carmel is 2-2, 1-0. San Dieguito dropped to 3-1, 0-1.

Carlsbad 21, Escondido 14--Phil Martinez carried 14 times for 95 yards and the game-winning touchdown, a 25-yard run in the fourth quarter. Carlsbad’s Marcus Fair added 40 yards on seven carries and quarterback Jesse Medina completed four of eight passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns to Jeremy Gallardi.

Ramona 28, San Marcos 12--Quarterback Todd Tuggle ran for a 30-yard touchdown and threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Todd Dick for Ramona (3-1, 1-0). Tuggle was five of nine for 40 yards and gained 47 yards on seven carries. Ramona’s leading rusher was Sarn Salmon, who rushed 15 times for 126 yards and one touchdown. San Marcos is 1-3, 0-1.

El Camino 13, Oceanside 7--No. 10 El Camino scored twice in the final three minutes to pull out the victory at Oceanside. Terry Vaughn, the county’s leading rusher, scored on a seven-yard run with seven minutes remaining for Oceanside (1-3, 0-1). El Camino (3-1, 1-0) scored with three minutes and then one minute left after Oceanside fumbles.

Nonleague

El Capitan 14, Valhalla 14--Valhalla’s Chris Wyse intercepted a pass at the Valhalla five in the final minutes to preserve the tie. Jason Heise led El Capitan, completing 13 of 25 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. El Capitan (0-3-1) scored with five minutes remaining but missed the PAT. Valhalla is (2-1-1).

Grossmont 35, Monte Vista 9--Trevor Hanks threw touchdown passes of 11 yards to Bryon Woodworth and 15 yards to Jamie Cauldren for No. 8 Grossmont (4-0). Grossmont led 21-9 at halftime and added 14 points in the fourth quarter when Derek Leslie recovered a blocked punt in the end zone and Keith Price ran 10 yards for a score. Grossmont, of the Grossmont 2-A league, is 3-0 against Grossmont 3-A teams this season. Monte Vista cut Grossmont’s first-half lead to 21-9 on a 36-yard field goal by Ernie Reyes with one second remaining in the half.

La Jolla 14, Hoover 13--Nick Alford rushed 28 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns to lead La Jolla (2-1-1). Hannon Brett added 75 yards in seven carries for La Jolla. Jerome Kennedy had 147 yards in 19 carries and scored two touchdowns for visiting Hoover (2-2).

Mira Mesa 41, University City 8--Robby Edwards rushed for 156 yards in five carries to lead visiting Mira Mesa (3-1). Wayne Pittman added 79 yards in 12 carries. University City quarterback Anthony Hill completed 14 passes in 33 attempts for 177 yards but threw three interceptions. University City is 1-2.

Crawford 20, Madison 19--Chris Townsend completed 14 of 27 passes for 122 yards to lead visiting Crawford (3-1). Peter Ervin rushed for 78 yards in 18 carries for Crawford. J.J. Cole caught eight passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns and Mike Jones completed 12 of 29 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns for Madison (2-2). Madison missed a 44-yard field goal as time ran out.

Serra 21, Kearny 20--Brian Tucker caught just two passes from quarterback Tom Cotner, but both were for touchdowns--plays of 13 and 20 yards, the second giving the win to Serra (2-2). For visiting Kearny, Steve Huff connected with Tommy Rawlins on scoring passes of 20 and 4 yards. Rod Alexander caught two passes for 60 yards and also kicked three extra points for Serra.

Imperial 8, Calipatria 6--Imperial, which defeated Calipatria twice last year by a combined 92-0, needed a two-point conversion to edge the Hornets (1-3). Imperial is 3-1.
