LOCAL : Man Killed in Santa Ana Shooting
A 24-year-old man was shot to death as he stood with friends on a sidewalk in Santa Ana in what police today described as a gang-related drive-by shooting.
Santa Ana Police Sgt. Doyle Smith said today that Gerardo Veloz of Santa Ana was fatally wounded by shots fired Sunday night from a passing car while he was standing on a sidewalk in the 500 block of South Spruce Street.
Veloz was pronounced dead about 9:30 p.m. No other people were injured, and no arrests have been made. Smith said police have only sketchy information about the vehicle involved in the shooting.
