Actor George Hamilton, reportedly an unindicted co-conspirator in a fraud case involving the late Philippine dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos and wife Imelda, said he was just a friend of the couple and that “there was nothing improper” in the relationship. New York Newsday reported that Hamilton was named as a co-conspirator in papers filed by federal prosecutors in the case, in which Imelda Marcos is charged with secretly investing millions in stolen Philippine funds. Why Hamilton was named in the papers was not clear. In a radio interview, Imelda Marcos promised that she would return to the United States to stand trial in March if she is allowed to leave her exile home in Hawaii and bury her husband in her homeland. The United States has forbidden her to leave, and the Philippines has refused entry to Marcos’ body.
