San Fernando Running Back Suspended After Verbal Joust
Senior tailback Maurice McFarland, San Fernando High’s leading rusher last season, has been indefinitely suspended from the team for disciplinary reasons, Coach Tom Hernandez said Monday.
McFarland, who rushed for 670 yards, five touchdowns and averaged 6.3 yards a carry for the North Valley League champions in 1988, was among a group of San Fernando players ejected by Los Angeles School District Police from a City Section game last Thursday night at Kennedy High.
The group reportedly jousted verbally in the stands with players from Crespi and Granada Hills highs. Only players from San Fernando were ordered to leave, Hernandez said.
Three weeks ago, the 6-foot, 205-pound McFarland was suspended for missing practice and was held out of San Fernando’s season-opening loss to Fontana.
