Albacore Closer, Bigger
The albacore bite keeps getting better.
Not only are the fish getting closer, most coming from an area about 50 miles south of Point Loma, but they are getting bigger, averaging between 12 and 14 pounds, according to Carol Sandner of San Diego’s H & M Landing.
On Tuesday the Mascot VI, with 45 fishermen aboard, caught 130 albacore and seven yellowfin tuna. Besides the yellowfin, which have been up to 40 pounds, some bluefin and skipjack tuna continue to show in the counts.
