Long Beach : Bus System Wins Award for Outstanding Achievement
Praised for having some of the safest buses and happiest riders in North America, the Long Beach Transit System has been given the transit industry’s outstanding achievement award.
The American Public Transit Assn. honored the blue-and-white fleet for increasing ridership by more than 700,000 boardings yearly, reducing breakdowns and reaching out to ethnic communities, industry officials said. Long Beach won in the category of transit systems with 300 buses or less.
The Long Beach system had already been honored by the people who matter most--residents and riders--who gave it a 96% approval rate, according to APTA officials.
