SINGLE-FAMILY HOME PERMITS
Despite the highest monthly total (969 in July) since March, the number of permits for single-family homes issued during the first seven months of 1989 was the lowest total for any of the last four years. The January-July total, 5,143, was 31% less than the comparable period of last year, 14% less than 1987 and 2% less than 1986.
Significant dips in the number of permits issued in the unincorporated areas as well as the cities of Tustin and San Clemente made up most of the overall decline. The cities of Anaheim and Orange were the scenes of the largest increases.
Compared to the surrounding counties, Orange also had the largest decline. Compared to the first seven months of 1988, there were 31% fewer permits issued here, compared to a 32% increase in Los Angeles County and smaller decreases in the other three counties.
