Not Guilty Plea in Thrift Shop Slaying
A Los Angeles man who allegedly bludgeoned to death a thrift shop manager last month has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in Municipal Court.
Cecil Carr, 33, was arrested Monday and charged with the murder of Jorge A. Dailey Sr., 68. Dailey, a retired restaurant worker, lived and worked at the Calvary Baptist Church Bargain Thrift Store at 61st and Main streets. His girlfriend found him Sept. 18 on the floor of the store, beaten to death.
Detectives said a neighbor told them Carr, an unemployed meat cutter who lived next door to the thrift shop, was in the store before the killing. His fingerprints were also found there, detectives said.
When Carr was questioned, he made statements that implicate him in the crime, police said.
He is being held without bail at Los Angeles County Jail. A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 18.
