Tests disclosed that Dwight Gooden of the New York Mets does not have a tumor in his pitching arm.
Met spokesman Rick Lawes said Gooden still has a small tear in a muscle in the back of his right shoulder and is undergoing a therapy program at his Florida home.
The New York Daily News reported that Gooden became concerned when an unidentified man, who claimed to be a doctor affiliated with the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, called the players’ association last month and said the shoulder injury that sidelined Gooden for much of the second half of the season might have been the result of a tumor.
