Camarillo Wins Invitational
Camarillo High’s Abe Valdez clocked 15 minutes, 54 seconds in finishing second and teammates Derek Kite (16:09) and Shawn Goetzinger (16:13) placed fifth and seventh to pace the Scorpions to their second consecutive Stanford cross-country invitational title Saturday at Stanford.
Camarillo totaled 49 points to edge Concord De La Salle (95) and Arroyo Grande (180) in the five-kilometer race.
The Hart girls’ team, led by junior Laura Hunter (14th in 20:42) and sophomore Anjanette Dionne (18th in 21:01), finished fifth with 143 points. Junior Katie Meyer’s fifth-place effort (19:54) helped Camarillo (187) place sixth in the team standings.
