Ireland’s Carroll House Wins Arc
PARIS — Carroll House of Ireland took control at the top of the stretch and won the 68th running of the $1.3 million Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Europe’s richest horse race, Sunday after surviving a foul claim.
In the stretch run, Carroll House held off the challenges of Behera and Saint Andrews by 1 1/2 lengths. Behera finished second by a neck over Saint Andrews, with one of the favorites, filly Young Mother, fourth.
Alain Lequeux, who rode Behera, registered an objection against Carroll House for hampering him on the inside in the stretch and forcing him to go to the outside. The objection was overruled.
Young Mother, Star Lift and Harvest Time took the early lead, then relinquished it to Behera before the final turn. Behera was passed first by Saint Andrews and then Carroll House. Carroll House then quickened his pace and pulled clear.
