FALL SPORTS ROUNDUP : Northridge Posts First CCAA Win
The Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team won its first California Collegiate Athletic Assn. volleyball match of the season Tuesday, defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills, 15-12, 15-7, 15-6, at Northridge.
Northridge (11-8, 1-2 in CCAA play) is ranked fifth in the National Collegiate Athletic Assn.’s Division II. Junior outside hitter Marianne Dixon led a balanced CSUN attack with seven kills. Keira Middleton and Patty Fitzsimmons each added six kills.
Senior setter Karen Sutherland led Dominguez Hills (6-10, 0-2) with six kills.
In other women’s volleyball matches:
Pierce d. Glendale, 15-2, 15-8, 15-9--Anna Suarez had 10 kills and Andrea Banducci added seven for the Brahmas (8-1, 7-1) in a Western State Conference match at Glendale.
Christ College d. Cal Lutheran, 15-7, 15-4, 16-14--Despite Jenifer Larson’s 10 kills, Cal Lutheran (0-15) lost at Christ College (6-7).
COLLEGE SOCCER
The Master’s 4, Azusa Pacific 1--Chris Palm scored two goals to lead The Master’s (7-3-3) in a nonconference match at home.
Moorpark 2, Long Beach 0--Wendy Berna and Stephanie Gainey each scored first-half goals to lead the Raiders (9-1-1, 3-1-1) in a South Coast Conference women’s match at Moorpark.
HIGH SCHOOL WATER POLO
Harvard 11, Loyola 4--Brian Border, Shane Loomis and Jim Toring each scored three goals for the Saracens (14-4, 4-0) in the Del Rey League match.
