A Canadian cult leader who cut off the arm of one of his followers and pulled out her teeth with pliers was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday.

Roch Theriault, 42, and three of his followers in the Ant Hill Kids commune near Burnt River, Canada, pleaded guilty to assault charges, the Canadian Press news agency reported.

Police said Theriault cut off the arm of Gabrielle Lavallee after she developed gangrene. On another occasion he pulled out her teeth and gum tissue.
