Johnny Rodgers, 1972 Heisman Trophy winner, was placed back on probation by a San Diego Superior Court judge for a 1987 incident involving a cable television repairman who was disconnecting service to his home.

The hearing was ordered by an appellate court that last June affirmed Rodgers’ conviction for being an ex-felon in possession of a gun, but reversed an assault charge because the definition Rodgers was charged under did not apply to his case.

The conviction stemmed from a complaint by Cox Cable technician Jamie Roxas, who went to Rodgers’ home in National City in 1985 to disconnect the cable service for nonpayment of a $250 bill. Roxas testified that he was on a utility pole when Rodgers came out and ordered him down and kept his right hand in his bathrobe pocket while talking to him.
