A driver who reportedly tried to beat a yellow light on Katella Avenue between the cities of Stanton and Anaheim while racing another car was seriously injured, and six other people received minor to moderate injuries in a two-car collision Saturday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol officials said the driver of the car that ran the light, Cecil G. Wilson, 59, of Anaheim, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was listed in serious condition. Although an investigation is pending, CHP officials released a statement that Wilson had been drinking before the incident.

CHP officials said Wilson had been racing against a red Porsche eastbound on Katella Avenue just before he ran the yellow light at the Magnolia Avenue intersection, which is in an unincorporated area. His vehicle struck a car pulling out of a driveway about 200 feet east of the intersection.
