Scott Scores 19, Magic Gets 18 to Lead Lakers to Victory Over New Jersey, 117-75
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Byron Scott scored 19 points and Magic Johnson had 18 to lead the Lakers to a 117-75 exhibition victory over the New Jersey Nets Saturday night.
The Lakers (2-0) were ahead, 19-18, in the first quarter but then outscored the Nets, 24-4, to take a 43-22 lead. The game was never close again.
The Lakers, who led 56-30 at halftime, shot 52.3% for the game. The Nets shot 35.2%.
James Worthy and rookie Steve Bucknall each scored 13 points for the Lakers. Vlade Divac had 11 points and 10 rebounds as a reserve center.
The Nets (0-2) were led by reserve forward Charles Shackleford with 16 points. Dennis Hopson scored 10 points as the only other Net in double figures.
