Marshall Plan for Eastern Europe
I would like to comment on your editorial, in which you state, “Now the prosperous Western Europeans, joined by Japan, the United States and other major industrial nations, are lining up to help Poland and Hungary embark on an unprecedented political transformation.”
The United States is still feeling the effects of the first Marshall Plan. We have a national debt fast approaching $3 trillion and annual federal budget deficits of over $100 billion.
I have a good suggestion. Why don’t those prosperous Western European nations who benefited from our Marshall Plan, now embark on a program to repay the United States.
