Shirley Muldowney defeated Darrell Gwynn to win the top fuel category at the National Hot Rod Assn.’s Fallnationals at Chandler, Ariz.
Muldowney won the final with an elapsed time of 5.058 seconds and 275.48 m.p.h. Gwynn finished the quarter-mile course in 5.048 seconds, 278.81. Bruce Larson defeated Don Prudhomme in the funny car final.
