Negotiations in the Beverly Hills teachers’ strike resumed today but quickly broke off, a union spokeswoman said. “There was just no agreement of the mind,” said Bernice Barth, a spokeswoman at the Beverly Hills Education Assn. The teachers’ chief contract negotiator, a state mediator and the school district’s negotiators met at district offices at 10 a.m. but the session came to an end in about an hour, Barth said.

Meanwhile, student attendance districtwide continued to plunge--to 41% today, from 53% Tuesday, the district said. At Beverly Hills High School, about 24% of the students were in class today, according to the district.

About 300 of the district’s 315 teachers, counselors and nurses walked out at the Beverly Hills Unified School District’s five public schools on Monday because talks over pay and benefits broke down last week.
