COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Saddleback Loses First Volleyball Match of Season

Golden West College had eight aces and Saddleback none as Golden West defeated host Saddleback, 15-5, 15-5, 15-9, in an Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball match Wednesday.

Golden West is 7-2 overall, 5-0 in conference play. The loss was the first of the season for Saddleback (6-1, 3-1).

Maureen Flannagan had 10 kills and three aces, and Erin Holleman had five kills and two blocks to lead Golden West.

Fullerton 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Christy Richmond had 10 kills and two aces and Lisa Papazian had 10 kills to lead visiting Fullerton (7-1, 4-0), 15-6, 15-5, 15-2.

In Western State Conference wrestling:

Cypress 29, Cuesta 13--Chris Malavar of Cypress (5-2, 1-0) broke an 11-11 tie by defeating Bucky Hanson, 13-5, in the 167-pound division at Cypress. The Chargers’ Sam Lopez, ranked No. 1 in the state at 118 pounds, defeated Fernando Garcia, 5-1.
