Toll Put at 29 in North China Quakes

BEIJING — A series of strong earthquakes that rumbled across rural northern China late Wednesday and early Thursday destroyed more than 10,000 homes, killed at least 29 people and injured more than 150.
The quakes, with magnitudes ranging from 5.0 to 6.1, hit Shanxi and Hebei provinces, the official China Daily said Friday.
Most of the destruction occurred in Shanxi province.
