ROUNDUP : Garcia Scores Four Goals, Leads Cypress
Craig Garcia scored the first four goals of the match and Todd Banhidy had the final two to lead host Cypress to a 6-3 victory over Grossmont in an Orange Empire Conference water polo match Friday.
Cypress (18-5, 6-3) led, 4-0, midway through the third quarter but Grossmont cut the lead to 4-3 early in the fourth quarter. Banhidy’s goals came with 1:33 and 1:01 left in the fourth quarter. Grossmont is 11-11, 4-4.
In another Orange Empire Conference water polo match:
Saddleback 11, San Diego Mesa 9--Tino Perone scored seven goals and Dave Becker had the other four for host Saddleback (14-9, 7-2). Steve Chaplain had 14 saves for Saddleback, the second-place team in the conference behind undefeated Orange Coast.
In South Coast Conference conference water polo:
Golden West 18, Cerritos 9--Visiting Golden West (21-2, 5-0) was led by Henry Rabello, who had six goals, and Morgan Courtney, who had four. Golden West is in first place in the South Coast Conference.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:
Golden West 1, Rancho Santiago 1--Jose Vasquez scored with less than two minutes remaining to give Rancho Santiago (8-3-3) a tie at Golden West. Dave Laing had scored for Golden West (1-10-2, 0-2-2) with about 16 minutes remaining.
Goalie Clinton Larson had 13 saves for Golden West and Oscar Servellon had eight for Rancho Santiago.
Fullerton 1, Riverside 0--Hector Vasquez scored with about 20 minutes left in the game for visiting Fullerton (9-6-1, 2-2).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, Rancho Santiago 1--Rancho Santiago (0-9, 0-5) was defeated by Orange Coast, 15-6, 15-2, 10-15, 15-3.
The Pirates, who were led by Cathy Scalan with 11 kills and five aces, are 2-7, 2-3.
Saddleback 3, Fullerton 1--Saddleback (7-1, 4-1) won, 15-7, 15-7, 15-17, 15-11, at Fullerton Fullerton is 7-1, 4-1.
Fullerton and Saddleback are tied for second behind undefeated Golden West.
