Utah State scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns, two by Demetrius Brown, and defeated New Mexico State, 28-13, Saturday in a Big West game at Las Cruces, N.M.
Quarterback Kirk Johnson scored Utah State’s first touchdown in the final period on a one-yard run. Brown’s touchdowns came on runs of three and 18 yards.
Utah State, 1-5 overall and 2-1 in Big West play, stretched its consecutive victories in this series to 10 by spoiling New Mexico State’s homecoming.
New Mexico State is 0-7 and 0-3.
Johnson had three passes intercepted in the first quarter, and one was returned 18 yards for a touchdown by Mike Hall.
Northern Illinois 42, UNLV 24--Wishbone quarterback Stacey Robinson rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more in leading the Huskies to a victory over the Rebels in a non-conference game at DeKalb, Ill.
Northern Illinois (5-2) led only 21-17 at halftime, but pulled away from Las Vegas (3-3) in the third quarter.
