Steen’s Rebound Gives Winnipeg Win
WINNIPEG, Canada — Thomas Steen flipped in a rebound with 6:26 remaining to give the Winnipeg Jets a 5-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers Sunday night.
Paul Fenton, Randy Cunneyworth, Dave Ellett and Dave McLlwain also scored for the Jets, who squandered a 3-1 second-period lead, but then rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the third period.
Steen, suffering from the flu, put a rebound into the top of the net at 13:34 to break a 4-4 tie.
Glenn Anderson, with two goals, Mark Messier and Geoff Smith scored for Edmonton (3-4-1), which lost for the first time in three road games this season.
Bill Ranford made 30 saves, including two on breakaways by Dale Hawerchuk, to keep Edmonton in the game.
Winnipeg goalkeeper Tom Draper faced only 18 Oiler shots. Edmonton took only 29 shots in its weekend losses to the Boston Bruins and Jets.
