NAMES IN HE NEWS : ‘Macho’ World Tough--Aquino
MANILA — President Corazon Aquino admitted today she has problems with being a female ruler in a “macho” world and said death threats are part of the job.
Firmly defending her record since being swept to power in a popular revolt in 1986, Aquino said some people may think of her as being weaker than a man.
“My problem is being a woman; somehow I think in this macho world a woman is always thought of as being a little weaker than the man, although I would like to contest that,” she declared.
In a meeting with foreign correspondents , Aquino said death threats and the risk of being ousted are things she has to live with.
“I guess being president I will always have to consider that there may be somebody out there, or some people out there, who would like to eliminate me,” she said.
