FISHING NOTES / DAN STANTON : White Sea Bass Can’t Resist Tasty Squid Bait at Rocky Point
Squid again was the determining factor as Redondo Sportfishing boats filled their tanks and focused on white sea bass at Rocky Point.
There is a big concentration of the bass at the point and daily catches have been averaging 10 fish per boat, according to the pier’s office.
Optimism runs high for an excellent fall run of big white sea bass.
The limit at this time of year is three per angler, and they must measure at least 28 inches.
There also have been big yellowtail in the area, but most anglers have been concentrating on the white sea bass that have been running up to 30 pounds.
The run started over the weekend and up to Tuesday the total catch had topped 50.
Ray Hawks of King Harbor Marlin Club reports that the club’s catch this season has reached 35, of which 25 have been tagged and released as part of the club’s point system.
Jerry Austin weighed in the big one at 175 pounds.
