McDonnell Douglas Corp.: The diversified aerospace company said third-quarter profit fell 54% to $38 million due to higher interest expense, an operating loss in its transport aircraft segment and decreased earnings from its combat aircraft, missiles, space and electronics segments. The St. Louis firm said profit included $6 million from discontinued operations in its information systems area. Revenue rose 3% to $3.7 billion. The results included a pretax gain of $25 million from an insurance payment related to the loss of a leased aircraft.
