LOCAL : Man Wounds Ex-Lover, Himself
A 32-year-old man and his 51-year-old former girlfriend were in critical condition today after he shot her and turned the gun on himself Thursday night in the bar of an Anaheim restaurant, police said.
The man, whose name was being withheld until his relatives could be notified, and the woman, Mary Louise Cutbirth of Fullerton, were lying on the floor of the bar at the Foxfire Restaurant on Santa Ana Canyon Road when officers arrived.
Witnesses said the couple had been quietly chatting at the bar when--for no apparent reason--the man pulled a small-caliber handgun and shot Cutbirth in the head, Anaheim police Sgt. George Robichaud said.
Then the man pointed the gun at his own head and pulled the trigger.
He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and she was taken to United Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.
