HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : Birmingham Takes Mid-Valley Championship
Birmingham High defeated Van Nuys, 7-15, 15-5, 15-12, 15-5, Thursday at Van Nuys to clinch its second consecutive Mid-Valley League championship.
Meredith Lewis had 11 kills and seven blocks and Sacha Klein added nine kills and eight blocks for Birmingham (10-2 overall, 8-0 in the Pac-8 Conference).
Reseda d. Monroe, 15-7, 15-12, 15-12--Judy Ponce had 16 kills for the Regents in a Pac-8 Conference match at Reseda.
Grant d. Sylmar, 15-9, 15-1, 11-15, 15-5--Carie Fuller had 13 kills and 11 blocks and Griselda Vasquez added six kills, nine assists and nine digs for Grant in a Pac-8 Conference match at Sylmar.
Royal d. Channel Islands, 15-3, 15-7, 15-2--Jennifer Hamilton had eight kills and Alison Bantel had seven for Royal in the Marmonte League match.
Alemany d. Notre Dame, 3-15, 8-15, 16-14, 15-12, 15-11--Marie Motil had 18 kills and Alison Avery had 17 for host Alemany in a San Fernando Valley League match.
Louisville d. Chaminade, 15-12, 15-9, 15-0--Lisa Funari served the last 10 points of the final game of Louisville’s San Fernando Valley League match at Chaminade.
L. A. Baptist d. Montclair Prep, 15-4, 15-8, 15-9--Andrea Lucadam had eight kills and six aces for the Knights (12-1, 8-0) in an Alpha League match.
