A record-tying performance is guaranteed for viewers of tonight’s fourth game of the World Series.

When the Oakland A’s meet the San Francisco Giants on ABC (Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42) at 5 p.m. (first pitch 5:35), the contest will equal the record set in 1981 for the baseball game played latest in the year. If a fifth game is necessary Sunday, ABC will begin its telecast at the same time, with the first pitch at 5:30.

The usual extensive college football coverage includes both major local teams (UCLA vs. Washington at 12:30 p.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42, and USC vs. Stanford at 3:30 p.m. on Prime Ticket) and an ESPN doubleheader with the nation’s top two teams (Notre Dame vs. Pittsburgh at 2 p.m. and Miami at Florida State at 5 p.m.).

Sunday’s pro football schedule is highlighted by CBS’ airing of the 10 a.m. matchup of two struggling teams, the Rams and the Chicago Bears, on Channels 2 and 8.

And finally, for something completely different, ESPN and NFL Films will give their answer to the age-old question, “What was the greatest NFL team of all time?” when the 1978 Pittsburgh Steelers meet the 1972 Miami Dolphins in the Dream Bowl at 5:15 p.m. Sunday. This will conclude an eight-week series in which the results of games were determined by computer.
