NEWPORT BEACH : YMCA Honors Rileys and Place at Banquet
County Board of Supervisors Chairman Thomas F. Riley, his wife, Emma Jean, and YMCA volunteer Patricia Place received Reach Out recognition awards this weekend at a banquet sponsored by the Newport-Costa Mesa YMCA’s Center for Family Counseling.
Riley was honored for his participation in community affairs since 1964 and for his service to the 5th District. His wife was honored for her support of the YMCA Hotel for Women and the Newport Beach chapter of Childhelp.
Place has helped raise money for the Newport-Costa Mesa YMCA for 12 years, including more than $180,000 during her three-year term as chairwoman of its annual Support Campaign. Place is a six-year member of the Y’s board of directors and teaches swimming and fitness classes.
“The Y is the only organization I know of that enables me to know so many different kinds of people,” Place said. “There are men and women of all ages and religious affiliations. That’s what I like most about it.”
About 350 people attended the awards banquet and auction held Friday night at the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach. The event benefited the Y’s Center for Family Counseling, which provides family and individual counseling on a sliding-fee scale.
