County Honors Boy for Saving Mother
Calling him one of the youngest heroes in Los Angeles County, Supervisor Mike Antonovich on Tuesday honored 4-year-old Jameson Rodgers for saving his mother’s life by calling 911.
Clutching a scroll that was almost as tall as he is, Jameson told supervisors that he dialed the 911 emergency number Oct. 10 when he saw his mother, Peggy, who was choking on a cough drop, fall to the floor of their Van Nuys apartment.
Paramedics arrived three minutes later and were able to dislodge the lozenge that had become stuck in her throat.
Reading from the commendation--signed by all five supervisors--Antonovich told the audience that Jameson was taught to call 911 at the age of 2. After he dialed the emergency number and calmly described the situation to a dispatcher, Jameson waited outside to help direct rescuers to the Rodgers’ apartment, Antonovich said.
The supervisors also awarded commendations to Station 39 of the Los Angeles Fire Department, which handled the emergency call. Fire Capt. John Biggs, engineer Charles Foote, firefighters Jim Satterfield and Rene Herrera, and dispatcher Robert Sanchez received individual awards.
