ORANGE : 100 Gallons of Diesel Spilled on Roadway
Police officers were called on Tuesday to help supervise the steam cleaning of a two-mile stretch of road after a tractor-trailer spilled 100 gallons of diesel fuel.
Sgt. Art Romo said the truck’s fuel tank was punctured when its driver made a sharp turn in the 700 block of East Chalynn Avenue. Authorities closed a lane of La Veta Avenue between Shaffer and Pepper streets as the crew from a Stanton environmental company applied chemicals and steam to clean the road.
“When they (crew members) arrived, most of the diesel had evaporated or had been absorbed in the asphalt,” Como said. “So they had to steam clean it to get it out.”
The operation was expected to last until midnight Tuesday. The vehicle was impounded. No citations have been issued, he said.
