VIDEO RENTAL CHARTS : ‘Roger Rabbit’ Storms Up Rental, Sales Charts
“Who Framed Roger Rabbit” is doing bang-up business in the rental market, jumping from No. 19 to No. 4 in its second week on the Billboard rental chart. For a movie geared to the sales market, it’s a surprisingly hot rental. But with “Rabbit” being discounted as low as $12 per copy, as Christmas gets closer, expect much stronger business in the sales market--where it’s already No. 2 behind another Disney animated classic--”Bambi.” The two features are likely to stay on top until “Batman” swoops onto this chart later in the month. “‘The Dream Team,” the Michael Keaton comedy about a group of mental-hospital patients on the loose in the big city, rose three rungs to No. 6 on the rental chart.
* “Pet Sematary,” based on Stephen King’s novel about a haunted cemetary, was by far the year’s biggest horror title--grossing $57.4 million at the box office. It’s been the hit rental of the Halloween season, climbing to No. 7 in just two weeks.
