Arcadia : Day’s Pay for Quake Relief
Fire Chief Gerald Gardner presented the Arcadia chapter of the Red Cross with a check for $14,521 Wednesday to aid victims of the Oct. 17 Bay Area earthquake.
At the suggestion of Firefighter Bruce Marshall, 68 of the Arcadia Fire Department’s 78 staffers gave up one vacation day each which was converted to cash for the donation, Capt. Earl Curtis said.
Marshall said he was taking a shower at department headquarters when he came up with the idea.
