Council Clears Way for Buying Amtrak Station
The Glendale City Council on Tuesday authorized the city staff to start negotiations for the purchase of the Glendale Amtrak station from the Southern Pacific Co. as part of a future light-rail route.
City Manager David Ramsay said the council, meeting in closed session, identified the 2.5-acre property at 400 W. Cerritos Ave. as a key location in the city’s transportation plans. Ramsay said the city is also interested in preserving the Spanish-style building as a historical site.
The station is on Southern Pacific’s main rail line to the San Fernando Valley and can be used for an alternative light-rail route to downtown Los Angeles, he said.
