VIDEO . . . WHAT’S NEW : ‘Say Anything,’ ‘Chances Are’ Among New Releases
As a journalist for Rolling Stone, Cameron Crowe was the envy of many colleagues when it came to interviews. Youthful, handsome, charming and unassuming, he had a knack for getting his subjects to open up. Crowe brought the same qualities to the first movie he wrote and directed. “Say Anything,” now available on video from CBS/Fox ($89.98, PG-13), is a youthful, handsome, charming and unassuming, boy-meets-brainy-girl comedy/drama starring John Cusack and Ione Skye.
Other releases:
“Three Fugitives” (Touchstone, $89.95, PG-13), directed by Francis Veber and a remake of his own “Les Fugitifs,” is a hit-and-miss (mostly miss) comedy about an amateurish bank robber (Martin Short), his 6-year-old daughter (Sarah Rowland Doroff), and the tough, professional criminal he takes as a hostage (Nick Nolte).
“Chances Are” (RCA/Columbia, $89.95, PG) is a sweet comedy about love and reincarnation, starring Cybill Shepherd, Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan O’Neal.
“Troop Beverly Hills” (RCA/Columbia, $89.95, PG) features Shelley Long as a Girl Scout troop leader in this uneven comedy.
“Ernest Saves Christmas” (Touchstone, $89.95, PG), again starring Jim Varney as hapless hick Ernest P. Worrell.
“Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills” (Virgin, $89.95, R) A sex-and-status satire starring Jacqueline Bisset and Ed Begley Jr.
