Help-Wanted Ads Level Off: The volume of help-wanted ads appearing in the nation’s newspapers is holding steady, an indication that job growth is not likely to fall in the near future, according to a Conference Board report. In September, the board’s help-wanted advertising index registered 145, down 1 point from August and 8 points lower than the year-earlier period. The Conference Board tracks want-ad volume in 51 major newspapers and contends that want ads are a proven barometer of changes in the supply of jobs.
